The difference between an in-house statement and an independent record, and why researchers ask for both.
4 min readAn in-house record tells you what the producer measured. An independent record tells you what a separate laboratory measured on the same material.
Neither is a guarantee. Together they give a reviewer two data points instead of one, produced by parties with different incentives.
Where only one record exists, that should be visible rather than obscured.
